Battling COVID-19 : Indian Railways deploys 960 COVID Care Coaches in 5 States

Indian Railways has converted Railway Coaches into COVID Care Centres which are deployed in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Madhya Pradesh. Doctors and paramedics are to be provided by State Governments as per Standard Operating Procedures issued by MOHFW on 6th May 2020. Railways will deploy 2 liaison officers for each coach location to assist State Government officials.

Covid Care Coaches : AC coaches not suitable in view of the potential transmission risk of COVID 19 virus through AC ducting

The issue of AC vs Non AC coaches was discussed with NiTi Ayog and MoHFW, and it was agreed that a higher ambient temperature was expected to assist in fighting the Virus and cross circulation of air through open windows will benefit patients. Till now, Indian Railways has converted 5,231 non air-conditioned coaches into isolation coaches.
