Railways supplementing the health care efforts of Govt. of India: Masks & Sanitizers being produced In-house in all Zonal Railways, Production Units & PSUs
Railways is working round the clock in manufacturing medical essentials such as Masks and Sanitizers to aid the medical fraternity. Till 1st April 2020 Indian Railways produced a total of 2,87,704 nos. of masks and 25,806 liters of sanitizers. Masks and hand sanitizers are being made available to all staff coming on duty and also being ensured for contract labourers.

Indian Railways staff deployed at various good sheds, stations and control offices continue to work to ensure that the supply of essential items for these critical sectors does not get affected. Efficient Management: Railways Centralised Control Office delivers quick results; 1,25,000 queries responded in the first 10 days of lock down
The Railway Control Office has become a huge management success in assisting the citizens & resolving issues of freight operations. 87% (over 1,09,000) of the queries were handled through direct human interaction over the phone. Railway control office has been doing 24x7 monitoring of four communication and feedback platforms- Helplines- 139, 138, social media (esp Twitter) and email (railmadad@rb.railnet.gov.in). The Geo-Fenced Distributed Helpline 138 reaches out to public in local languages for resolution of local issues to make it truly effective

Working in a Mission mode across India: 2500 Coaches (40,000 isolation beds) converted into Isolation Coaches by Railways
Indian Railways has put all its might and resources behind national efforts of combating COVID-19. In a short span of time, it has achieved almost half the initial task of 5,000 coaches by converting 2,500 coaches into isolation wards. With this, 40,000 isolation beds in Railway coaches are now ready for contingency. Average 375 coaches are being converted daily. The work is being carried out at 133 locations in the country.

Ensuring the supply of Basic necessities: Railways ensures supply of sugar, salt & edible oil for the common man during COVID-19 lockdown
Indian Railways has been making all efforts to ensure that there is no shortage of sugar, salt and edible oil for consumption of the common man during the nationwide lockdown due to COVID-19. From 23rd March to 4th April 2020, Railways loaded and carried 1342 wagons of sugar, 958 wagons of salt and 378 wagons/tanks of edible oil (One wagon contains 58-60 ton consignment). Indian Railways along with the Ministry of Home affairs, is also keeping in touch with State Governments to sort out any such operational issue if they arise.

Helping the needy: Railway distributes 1.4 Lakh cooked meals from 28th March to 1st April 2020
Railways continues to provide bulk cooked food with paper plates for lunch and food packets for dinner to needy people through base kitchens of IRCTC with the help of RPF, GRP, Railway Zones, State Governments and NGOs. While delivering the food to needy persons, social distancing and hygiene is being observed. IRCTC kitchens have prepared more than 1 lakh of these cooked meals. RPF in addition to playing a leading role in food distribution, provides about 38600 meals from its own resources.
