Keeping Supply Chains functional: Indian Railways making all efforts to ensure availability of essential commodities through its uninterrupted freight services

During the situation of lockdown in various States, Indian Railways Staff deployed at various good sheds, stations and control offices is working on 24/7 basis to ensure that the supply of essential items for the nation does not get affected. Essential commodities like food grains, salt, sugar, milk, edible oil, onions, fruits & vegetables, petroleum products, coal, fertilizers etc. are being transported by Railways throughout the country. Railways loaded 71261 wagons of freight in last two days - 48614 of essential goods and 22647 of other important commodities.

Feeding the needy: Indian Railways gears up to provide cooked food to needy people in times of lock down

Indian Railways has decided to provide bulk cooked food with paper plates to needy people from the locations where they have base kitchens of IRCTC. On 29th March, 2020 IRCTC supplied a total of 11030 lunch meals to needy people, migrant labourers & old age homes across the country. Indian Railways and IRCTC are also gearing up to meet any higher demand. 13 IRCTC base kitchens will become nodal points of such distribution. IRCTC is ready for any contingency and adequate stocks of foodgrains and other raw material are being maintained.

Round-the-clock Assistance: Board Control Cell started to ensure seamless flow of information & suggestions between Railway Officials & Public

Railway Board Control Cell has been opened which will work round the clock and shall be manned by a Director level officer. It will monitor calls received on the centralised Railway Helpline 139 and the decentralised Railway Helpline 138, in addition to monitoring trends on social media, especially Twitter, to communicate and alleviate any difficulties faced by the public by taking timely action. Further complaints, suggestions or queries can also be mailed to railmadad@rb.railnet.gov.in.

Special Parcel Train service started for carriage of essential items in small parcel sizes during the lockdown

Parcel Trains are very useful for quick mass transportation of goods such as medicines, medical equipment, masks, food items, etc for customers such as State governments, e-Commerce companies, etc. Total 8 Parcel Special Trains have been run by Railways since 22.03.2020 and running of Parcel specials is further being planned on 20 routes. Industrial houses, companies, any interested groups, organizations, individuals may avail of these services.

Railways to give full refund for all tickets for journey period from 21st March - 14th April 2020

In view of cancellation of all passenger trains and all passenger ticketing upto 14th April 2020, it has been decided by Indian Railways to give full refund for all tickets for journey period from 21st March - 14th April 2020. These instructions shall be in addition to and in continuation of the relaxations in Refund Rules vide instructions dated 21-03-2020.

COVID-19 Outbreak: Railways extends Cancellation of Passenger Train Services till 2400 hrs of 14th April, 2020

In continuation of the measures taken in the wake of COVID-19, Ministry of Railways has decided to extend the cancellation of passenger train services on Indian Railways, i.e. all Mail/Express trains (including premium trains), passenger trains, suburban trains and trains of Metro Railway, Kolkata till 2400 hrs of 14th April, 2020. However, freight train operations are being continued to ensure the supply of essential commodities.
