Railways won’t be privatised but investment needed for modernisation
There is no question of privatisation of Railways. However for new technology, lines and projects in national interest, Railways will obviously need investments. Public-private partnership will be encouraged and there will be corporatisation of some units.
Another big record set by Indian Railways- Longest electrified tunnel completed in record time
Indian Railways has commissioned the longest electrified tunnel, measuring 6.6 Kms. between Cherlopalli & Rapuru stations which is part of the recently completed Obulavaripalli–Venkatachalam new railway line. The tunnel has been completed in a record time of 43 months enabling Railways to start freight operations on this crucial line, which has reduced the distance between Krishnapatnam Port and its hinterland areas by 60 km.
Railways’ Operation Thirst- An All India Drive to crack down selling of unauthorised Packaged Drinking Water
To curb the menace of unauthorized Packaged Drinking Water (PDW) in Railway premises, an all India drive named “Operation Thirst” was launched on 08th & 09th July 2019. During the drive, 1371 persons were arrested for selling of packaged drinking water of unauthorised brands. Total fine amount of Rs. 6,80,855/- have been realized from these offenders.
