Honble Vice-President inaugurates Indias longest electrified rail tunnel in Andhra Pradesh Honble Vice-President Shri M Venkaiah Naidu dedicated the countrys longest electrified rail tunnel between Cherlopalli and Rapuru and the electrified railway line between Venkatachalam and Obulavaripalli. He also flagged-off a new intercity super fast express train between Gudur and Vijayawada, at Gudur in Andhra Pradesh. Railways to offer massive discount on train fare A discounted fare scheme with upto 25% discount of the base fare for AC Chair Car and Executive Class sitting accommodation is to be implemented from the end of September 2019. Only trains with monthly occupancy of less than 50% in the previous year are eligible for discount. Trains like Shatabdi, Gatimaan, Tejas, Double Decker, Intercity trains etc. will offer discount.

Railways conducted Mega Vendor Meet 2019 to expand vendor base To spread information on greater business opportunities in Railways Sector to expand vendor base a special Mega Vendor Meet was conducted on 30 August 2019 at Lucknow. Around 500 representatives from Industries across the country participated in the vendor meet. Detailed presentation on Online Vendor Approval process of RDSO, steps taken for enhancement for Ease of doing Business and details of items having less than three sources was given.

Railway employees awarded with National awards in sports for 2019 Railway employees Shri Bajrang Punia, Shri S. Baskaran, Ms. Sonia Lather, Shri Chinglensana Singh Kangujam, Ms. Poonam Yadav, Shri Nitten Kirrtane have been awarded National awards in sports for 2019 for their outstanding contribution in the field of sports. Union Minister, Shri Piyush Goyal advised that Indian Railways should start Fit Railway, Fit India campaign where all the employees should participate in fitness activities.
