Railways restores train services in Kashmir Valley

During the winter season, snowfall often halts the movement of vehicles in Kashmir Valley, in this situation, the train operation is considered the best mode of transportation in Kashmir Valley. Indian Railways has restored train services to benefit the thousands of local commuters to travel by train over the entire area between Baramulla to Banihal (138 Km). A total of 16 nos services are presently running.

Railways starts procurement of power in Punjab for Northern Railway as deemed licensee under open access

In a step towards reducing the cost of operations, Railways starts direct procurement of power in Punjab for Northern Railways as deemed licensee instead of consumers. “Mission 41K” document targets for saving of Rs. 41,000 Crore through integrated Rail Energy Management System by 2025. Indian Railways is now taking about 1400 MW (70%) of power under open access as deemed licensee in 11 States.

Railways further liberalizes General Purpose Wagon Investment Scheme (GPWIS) for prospective investors

Railways has further liberalized General Purpose Wagon Investment Scheme (GPWIS) for prospective investors, on the basis of feedback received from investors and end users. End users (other than logistics service providers) have been granted permission to load third party cargo in their rakes in empty direction. This will not only reduce the empty run of GPWIS rakes, but will also entail additional revenue to end user investors. Design Loan charges on General Purpose wagons have been reduced from 5% to 1%. This will significantly reduce the initial investment required for procurement of wagons.

Davangere - Harihar Railway track in Karnataka doubled

Doubling of Railway track between Davangere-Harihar stretch in Karnataka has been commissioned on 27.11.2019 paving the way for improved punctuality of trains. This double line between Davangere - Harihar is a part of doubling of 190 Km section between Hubballi and Chikjajur that was sanctioned in 2015 at an overall cost of Rs.1141 Cr.

Railways' PSU RailTel celebrated its 20th Foundation Day on 25th November 2019 in New Delhi. Speaking on the occasion through video conferencing, Minister of Railways and Commerce & Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal congratulated RailTel for its glorious journey and said that RailTel needs to aim for greater heights and become a Rs. 10000 cr. company in the coming years. He also said that the 5400+ station Wi-Fi will help in making Railway stations hubs of digital transformation.
