Railways is just ‘one’ short of eliminating all unmanned levels crossings on broad gauge lines across country and the 3,479th crossing will be eliminated before March end. The elimination of unmanned level crossings include building of over bridges or underpasses across the rail track and by manning them.

Railways is looking to construct a railway line between Rameswaram and Dhanushkodi (the starting point of Ram Setu), and a new Pamban bridge. The new bridge will be built parallel to the existing 104-year old bridge (practically non-operational) and Dhanushkodi – practically a ghost town – will get a railway line several decades after a cyclone destroyed the station.

Soon, India will have the world's highest railway-arch bridge over river Chenab in Jammu and Kashmir. The Chenab Bridge, which is under construction between Bakkal and Kauri in the Reasi district, is part of Indian Railways' mega plan to connect Kashmir valley with Udhampur known as Jammu-Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Line.
Giving special attention to the comfort & convenience of female passengers and the elderly, Railways is set to increase the combined reservation quota of lower berths in trains
Ministry of Railways has decided to enhance the combined reservation quota of lower berths earmarked in Sleeper, AC-3 tier and AC-2 tier classes for senior citizens, female passengers 45 years of age & above and pregnant women; increasing the comfort and convenience of female passengers and the elderly.
