In a new policy, Railways has decided to open its doors to any idea or concept from the public that promises more generation of non-fare revenue. To ensure that it is not flooded with “non-serious” ideas/concepts, a non-refundable “fee” of Rs 1,000 will be charged from those submitting an idea.
The Rauli station in Odisha would use atmospheric moisture extraction technology, and pass it over a condenser, turning the vapour into water, due to the heat exchange. The Station was earlier dependent on a stream, but its water was found to be unfit for human consumption. This new machine has solved the Station’s water woes.
Coal imports by the power utilities came down to 3.73 million tonnes (mt) in April from 4.798 MT in April 2017 mainly due to lower deliveries at imported coal based plants. The scope of reducing coal import is always more at power plants using domestic coal as they use high gross calorific value imported fuel for blending.
