Government has ramped up coal supply to ramp up buffer stock at thermal power stations in anticipation of electricity demand shooting in line with the weatherman's prediction of an early and hot summer this year. 16 power stations, or 14%, of the 112 coal-fired power plants have received fuel supplies in excess of their 100% requirement.

Kolkata Metro Railway to introduce a mobile-based e-ticketing system in the next 3-4 months. Once the system is in place, those with smartphones will no longer have to queue up for tokens. Metro is also in talks with banks to create an e-wallet that will enable daily passengers to recharge smart cards online.

Railways, on 17th March 2018, has announced a train service to be called Mahakal Express between Varanasi and Ujjain, connecting two of the major 'jyotirlingas' of the country. A project to convert the tracks between Fatehabad and Ujjain to broad gauge was also launched along with various other decisions for the facilities of the pilgrims.

Railways relaxes speed restrictions on the Churchgate-Virar route; improving the pace & punctuality of local trains and reducing travel time
Suburban trains on the Churchgate-Virar route, one of the busiest suburban railway routes in India, are likely to run faster. The trains can now ply at the speed of 100 kilometres per hour (kmph) on the fast line at Andheri station. Ending the crawling of trains, this is expected to reduce the travel time of commuters on the Churchgate-Borivali-Virar stretch by one to three minutes.
