NTPC has managed to bring down its cost of electricity generation by an average 39.5 paise per unit while for the Mauda project, it was reduced by Rs 1.65 per unit, mainly because of improvement in coal quality and supply. Other plants which gained due to improved quality and supplies of coal are Barh Stage-II (Rs 1.24 per unit), Badarpur (Rs 1.16 per unit) and Tanda (Rs 0.93 per unit). |

Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has recorded its highest-ever yearly coal production in 2016-17. It produced 67.04 million tonnes (MT) of coal in the previous fiscal and announced a turnover of Rs 15,000 crore. In 2015-16, the company produced 61.32 MT of coal. |

1st ‘India Indonesia Energy Forum’ was held in Jakarta, Indonesia on 20th April, 2017 and discussions were held with H.E. Mr. Ignasius Jonan, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Republic of Indonesia. Both sides have agreed to explore cooperation in number of areas such as upgrading of refineries in Indonesia, relocation of gas-based plants from India to Indonesia, sharing of experience in use of LEDs and renewable energy in India, sharing the expertise of Indonesia in gasification of fuel oil, exploration of oil, gas and coal fields. |

The Ministry of Power produces a National Electricity Plan every five years and sets out a detailed action plan for the next 10 with an aim of achieving universal access to electricity across India and ensuring that power is supplied efficiently and at reasonable prices. According to a draft of the third National Electricity Plan, non-fossil fuels (renewables, nuclear and large hydroelectric power plants) will account for more than half (56.5%) of India’s installed power capacity within 10 years. |
