The Government of India’s Street Lighting National programme (SLNP) has illuminated 50,000 KM of Indian roads with installation of 30 lakh LED street lights across the country. The installation of 30 lakh LED street lights has resulted in 39 crore kWh of annual energy savings, avoided capacity of over 104 MW to the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). Further it has also helped in reduction of 3.29 lakh tonnes of CO2 annually.
India is aiming to help its ailing power distribution companies by buying 50 lakh smart meters for two of its northern states. This is a pilot project where 40 lakh smart meters will go to Uttar Pradesh and the rest to Haryana. If successful, the program could be adopted by a large number of states.
Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) signed a MoU with Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) for distribution of energy efficient appliances under the flagship Unnat Jeevan by Affordable LEDs and appliances for All (UJALA) scheme. According to the agreement, IOCL, BPCL and HPCL will take up distribution of LED bulbs, LED tubelights and energy efficient Fans from select retail outlets across the country.
Participating States of UDAY have taken over the targeted debt of Rs. 2.09 lakh crores of their DISCOMs under borrowing exemption from the FRBM Act given in UDAY for the years 2015-16 and 2016-17. The Average Cost of Supply (ACS) - Average Revenue Realized (ARR) gaps have come down by almost 14 paise per unit and the AT&C losses have reduced by almost 1% in FY 2017.
